Investment
A handcrafted bamboo rod is not a commodity. It is a lifetime tool built to your exact specifications by one person, from start to finish. Pricing reflects the time, materials, and craft that go into every rod. Every piece on every rod is made in Bob's Shop. Guides, Ferrules, Reel Seats. Your rod will truly be a one of a kind, custom fly rod.
Final pricing depends on rod length, piece count, hardware selection, and engraving. A detailed quote is provided after your initial consultation.
Your Choices
What You Can Specify
Every detail of your rod is chosen by you. Bob will guide you through each decision during your consultation.
Line Weight
From delicate 2-weights for spring creeks to robust 6-weights for larger rivers. Bob will recommend the weight that best suits your target species and casting style.
Rod Length
Typically 6'6" to 9', with most commissions falling in the 7' to 8' range. Length is matched to your fishing environment — tight brushy streams call for shorter rods; open meadow water favors longer ones.
Rod Action
Slow, medium, or fast taper — each produces a distinct casting feel. Parabolic tapers load deeply for delicate presentations; progressive tapers offer versatility; tip-flex tapers deliver speed and distance.
Bamboo Character
Choose between natural blonde Tonkin cane for a classic, warm appearance, or flamed bamboo.
Thread Color
Silk wraps are available in a range of colors, but we will not wrap a rod in a color that we don't think compliments the rod. Our favorites are Red, Gold, Dark Brown, Medium Brown and Clear. Intermediate wraps may be added at an additional cost.
Hardware
Reel seats in nickel silver or oxidized nickle silver with wood-insert configurations. All grips are Rattan over a wooden base. hardware will be seleted to complement the rod's character and your fishing needs.
